Poky4Parkys Activities

We are currently holding an exercise class Monday evenings at 5:30 pm at the River of Life Church 1211 S 5th Ave. The class incorporates exercises led by Carolyn Weber, Physical Therapist. 

We are also holding Boxercise classes at the Senior Center. They are held on Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 am.

We have an exercise class on Wednesdays at 4:00 pm at the Senior Center. These classes are a video presentation from Power for Parkinsons in Austin Texas. 

We will also hold our monthly meeting at the Senior Activity Center the second Wednesday at 3:00 pm in room 3. We are having a monthly luncheon social on the second Saturday at noon. Summer months it is at Cotant Park in Chubbuck. Starting in October it will be at the Marshal Public Library.

Upcoming event: there will be virtual Victory Summits sponsored by Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's. Go to dpf.org/events for information and registration. These are always very good.

Another online activity which we recommend is the You Tube exercise videos by Power for Parkinson's Group from Austin, Texas.

POCATELLO PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP

POKY4PARKYS


Monthly Meeting: Second Wednesday of each month at 3:00 pm - Senior Activity Center -  437 No. 6th Ave.

Guest speakers and programs on subjects of interest to participants. Announcements etc.


Weekly Exercise Activities:

Poky4Parkys boxercise classes – each week on  Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 am – Senior Citizens Center

Fremont Street entrance.

Non contact boxing and exercise. - depending on instructor.


Move and Shout exercise class – each week on Wednesday at 4:00 pm – Senior Activity Center - Fremont Street entrance.

Exercise type dependent on available instructors, will usually be program from internet.


Therapeutic dance class for movement disorders – every Friday at 6:00 pm – Roy F Christenson building #48 ISU Campus 777 Memorial Dr.

Dance movements in response to voice commands.


Who should attend:

Individuals with Parkinson’s or related movement disorders and/or family/caregivers.


PURPOSE:

To provide information, education, opportunities for appropriate exercise, and support through collaboration with the medical field, caregivers, and individuals with PD or related movement disorders.

We are currently holding an exercise class Wednesday evenings at 4:00 pm at the Senior Activities Center 427 N 6th Ave. The class incorporates exercises from Power for Parkinsons Move and Shout and Brain and Body with some chair yoga thrown in once a month. 

We are also holding Boxercise classes at the Senior Center. They are held on Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 am .

We will also hold our monthly meeting at the Senior Activity Center the second Wednesday at 3:00 pm in room 4. We are having a monthly luncheon social at the Marshal Public Library on the second Saturday at noon.

We have been inactive for several months due to the COVID - 19 pandemic. We have held virtual monthly second Monday meetings. Our exercise classes have been put on hold. We have encouraged our members to take advantage of youtube and other online sources. We are hoping that we will soon be able to reach out to our membership.

Monthly Meeting place change

Beginning this month February our monthly meeting will held at the Pocatello Senior Citizens Activity Center in the Bonneville room. The time is still 11:00 am on the second Monday of each month. This month that will be February 10.

Activities of SEI Movement Disorders Support Group


We are currently holding our monthly support group meeting on the second Monday each month at MonteVista Hills Healthcare Center at 11:00 am 1071 Renee.

Monthly luncheon is the second Saturday each month at the Pocatello Senior Citizens Center 437 No 6th from 12 noon to 3 pm.

We offer two boxing classes each week Poky4Parkys. One class is held Monday and Thursday at 9:30 am and the other is held Tuesday and Friday at 2:30 pm both at the Pocatello Senior Citizens Center 437 No 6th.

A Move and Shout exercise class is held each week at 5:00 pm on Tuesday at the Monte Vista Hills Healthcare Center 1071 Renee.

We have a therapeutic dance class for those with movement disorders on Thursday each week at 4:00 pm at the Sullivan Mobile Home Park 1935 So 5th.
